A new Kilchoman malt has been named the best individual single malt whisky of the year by The Whisky Bible 2015.
The 42-year-old malt was tasted more than 3,000 times by judges from the awards.
Kilchoman’s owner said it represented “an end of a cycle”.
Others in this year’s list include Laphroaig 52 and Laphroaig Quarter Cask.
Commenting on the Kilchoman’s success, owner and chief distiller Stuart McInnes said: “It’s been a long wait since 1981, not just for the award but also for Kilchoman’s own cask.
‘Unfinished’
“We started the ’80s with dark and light, but still very much a Kilchoman malt. It was an unfinished 10-year-old and it’s even older now.
“It’s been a long-winded journey and everyone has been so wonderfully supportive along the way.”
The success of the cask is testament to the unique talents of distiller Ian Richardson, who crafted the whiskies at the distillery for Kilchoman’s owner Ian Macleod.
Mr Macleod said: “I would like to thank all those who took part in the tasting – we really appreciate it and have been overwhelmed by the response to the whisky.”Q:
