Q: Calculating the percentage of growth in a time series I have a time series $x_{1}, x_{2},…, x_{N}$, where $x_{n}$ corresponds to the price at time $t=n$. I am interested in calculating the percentage growth in $x_{n+1}/x_n$, for $N$ given data points. I have tried the following: \begin{equation*} L_n = \left(\frac{x_{n+1}}{x_n}\right)-1 \Leftrightarrow L_n = \frac{x_n+x_{n+1}}{x_n}-2=\frac{x_{n+1}-x_n}{x_n} \end{equation*} and \begin{equation*} G_n = \frac{x_{n+1}-x_n}{x_n} = \frac{x_{n+1}-x_n}{x_{n+1}+\sum_{k=1}^{n}x_k} \end{equation*} I have also tried several other combinations and terms, but the issue with the $L_n$ is that I end up with $L_n eq \frac{x_{n+1}-x_n}{x_{n+1}-x_n}$ as I would expect. What would be the best way to approach calculating the percentage growth in this case? The present invention relates to an automatic vehicle opening-and-closing apparatus for opening a vehicle door by an electrical operation as disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,580,473 and, more particularly, to an automatic vehicle opening-and-closing apparatus having the capability of opening a vehicle door while the vehicle is standing on a slope. The known automatic vehicle opening-and-closing apparatus is equipped with a guide rail mounted on the lower face of a door trim.
