My first play-through I’d read the manual and played on normal mode. I was actually incredibly disappointed by the story. It seemed to be very generic fantasy (no offense to the author) and I’m also not a huge fan of side quests in RPGs and it seemed like a lot of the early story had just been thrown in as filler. So, I decided to skip the story and played on ‘Pure’ mode where I could actually be myself; play on Normal or Hard Mode based on my interest. I’ve gone back to play through the storyline and now I’m able to enjoy it a bit more. I’m not sold on the gameplay being a lot of ‘win or lose’ but it provides the feeling of the game all the same. The fantasy setting of Eldrung, the Lands Between, is interesting and I enjoy looking around at all the different places and dungeon design. The game world is currently free to explore with various areas where you can access and take on quests. The story is told in what looks to be a combination of video game texts, books, and pictures, but I’ve had some difficulties following it in places. I found the lore to be kind of interesting (though not very deep) and the characters are really fun to be around, but I can’t help but wonder what the ‘win or lose’ portion of the game really means. Is it just the final battle at the end where I gain my strength and ascend? Is it if I win the battles, I get stronger as a person? It doesn’t really make any sense to me. The story is a little on the generic fantasy side, but I think it does a good job at explaining the world. There are a few funny moments here and there, but I can’t say I’m very invested in the characters or story. Eldrung is a pretty generic fantasy and I’m also not the biggest RPG fan. That said, there is a lot of fun to be had. All of the characters are easy to interact with, the story doesn’t feel long, and the game world is very easy to understand. bff6bb2d33
